Stiggs Brewing Company

The building at 112 S Park St. in Boyne City certainly has plenty of history associated with it. In the early twentieth century, the building was used as office space for the White Lumber Company machine. After White’s top mill burned down, they moved the office and the old building became general offices for the Boyne City, Gaylord, and Alpena Railroads until 1935. At that point it was operated by the Boyne City Railroad until 1976, and then spent its last two years as Boyne Valley.
But what are they doing with that building now? A Michigan State graduate with a degree in Biomedical Laboratory Diagnostics had a dream to brew great beer. He also realized something that goes with good beer is good food, so here we are. The concept here, according to the website, is that the menu will rotate based on seasonality and to accommodate the available beers. Oh, and that it will taste good. Well, I’ll be the judge of that.
Burger Ordered: Original Stiggs Burger!
The Taste: The exclamation point is on the menu. Now that may seem pretentious, but after eating the burger I would’ve felt comfortable adding another exclamation point, or even two. This Michigan beef burger is topped with cheddar cheese, Stiggs aioli (not sure what’s in it, but it’s awesome), bacon jam, mixed greens, and a sunny-side up egg. Boyne City brioche is the bun of choice, and it has the unenviable task of holding together all that medium-rare goodness. I was a little wary that the burger had too many things on it, but my trepidation was quickly assuaged with the first bite. This is a phenomenal burger, with so many great flavors all combining into a beautiful medley in my mouth. The aioli is probably the strongest flavor, but it doesn’t overpower the rest of the ingredients, and the mixture is perfect and potent.
The Verdict: Time to update the list perhaps? Stiggs Brewing Company has one burger on the menu, and they know that’s all they need. This thing is like a beautiful dream come to life.
Stiggs Brewing Company is located at 112 South Park Street in Boyne City, Michigan.
